Hamilton County COVID-19 Community Spread Level “Medium”.

HAMILTON COUNTY, OHIO – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have classified Hamilton County as having “Medium” COVID-19 community spread . CDC looks at the combination of three metrics to determine the COVID-19 community level:  new COVID-19 hospital admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days; percent of staffed inpatient beds occupied by COVID-19 patients; and total new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population in the past seven days.

The following recommendations are made regardless of what level of community spread exists:

When the community spread level is considered Medium or High, these additional recommendations are made:

  • If you are at high risk of getting very sick , wear a high-quality mask or respirator  (e.g., N95) when indoors in public; and
  • If you have household or social contact with someone at high risk for getting very sick, consider self-testing to detect infection before contact, and consider wearing a high-quality mask when indoors with them.

“Medium” COVID-19 community spread level , is defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. COVID-19 community spread levels are determined by looking at hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area.

The following prevention steps are recommended by the CDC for counties with “Medium” COVID-19 community spread levels:

  • If you are at high risk for severe illness, talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to wear a mask and take other precautions;
  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines; and
  • Get tested if you have symptoms.

Hamilton County residents are encouraged to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by keeping sick at home, getting tested, and following the COVID-19 guidelines for quarantine and isolation .
