HUD AWARDS LARGEST LOCAL GRANT AMOUNT YET: MORE THAN $15 MILLION TO NEW AND RENEWING HOMELESS PROGRAMS
New Projects Include Rapid Re-Housing For Families, Two Permanent Supportive Housing Programs for Chronically Homeless
CINCINNATI, OH (January 28, 2014) – Strategies to End Homelessness has secured more than $15 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support homeless services and housing to people who have been living on the streets and in emergency shelters in Hamilton County.
The $15.4 million awarded in Cincinnati and Hamilton County was a part of a nearly $1.8 billion in grants announced earlier this week. In addition to ongoing funding for existing projects, the award also funds a new Rapid Re-Housing for Families Project and two new Permanent Supportive Housing Projects for the chronically homeless.
The State of Ohio received more than $88 million for homeless and housing programs. Nationwide, the grants renew support for effective housing programs through HUD’s Continuum of Care for the Homeless Program. The funding will ensure that local projects continue to provide critically needed housing to people experiencing homelessness.
“This funding is competitively awarded by HUD and was earned by organizations in our community that have successfully helped many people out of homelessness and back to self-sufficiency,” said Kevin Finn, president & CEO of Strategies to End Homelessness. “If we are going to reduce homelessness, we must offer successful housing solutions; HUD funded these programs based on their proven results.”
Funding from the HUD Continuum of Care for the Homeless Program supports transitional and permanent supportive housing, rapid re-housing, street outreach and other services for persons coming off the streets and exiting emergency shelters. Local agencies receiving these funds include:
