Metro celebrates safety every June, and this year it will recognize two bus operators who have driven Metro buses enough miles to travel to the moon and back four times… without an accident.CINCINNATI – Metro celebrates safety every June, and this year it will recognize two bus operators who have driven Metro buses enough miles to travel to the moon and back four times… without an accident. Ronald Combs, of Fairfax, and Andrew Rodgers, of Evanston, are two of only 60 Metro drivers in Metro’s history to be inducted into the National Safety Council’s prestigious “Two Million Mile Club” for driving 30+ years without a preventable accident. Combs, Rodgers, 67 bus operators and 32 mechanics will be recognized for their successful safety records at Metro’s Safety Banquet on June 6, from noon – 1 p.m. at the Cincinnati Museum Center. In addition, Metro’s Safety Committee will be at Government Square’s Area D on Walnut Street, on June 13, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., for its Community Outreach Day. The committee, which includes bus drivers, maintenance, and administrative employees, will be there to answer questions from the public and to let passengers “see from the driver’s perspective” by sitting in the bus driver’s seat. Metro works with drivers throughout the year to ensure safety. Metro purchased a bus driving simulator in 2009 with federal formula funds from the Federal Transit Administration, to make training more efficient, enhance new operator preparation, improve safety performance, and reinforce driving competencies. Metro is a non-profit, tax-funded public service of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority, providing about 17 million rides per year. Metro provides fixed-route and paratransit services in Greater Cincinnati. # # #
