Metro Ridership Up for Westside-Uptown Express

Rt. 38X Glenway Crossing-Uptown Express ridership was up about 18% in December 2012 compared to the same time in 2011.CINCINNATI – One of Metro’s newest routes made great gains in 2012. Rt. 38X Glenway Crossing-Uptown Express ridership was up about 18% in December 2012 compared to the same time in 2011. In all, Metro provided nearly 21,000 rides on the Rt. 38X in 2012. The Rt. 38X Glenway Crossing-Uptown Express started operating in August 2011. The direct service connects Cincinnati’s westside neighborhoods with the growing Uptown area with six morning and six afternoon trips on weekdays. In addition to the University of Cincinnati, the route serves Good Samaritan, Christ Hospital and University of Cincinnati Medical Center, as well as the Cincinnati VA and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Rt. 38X also serves the Environmental Protection Agency, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, and other uptown employers. The route does not go downtown. Rt. 38X serves Metro’s Glenway Crossing Transit Center & Park & Ride, which opened in December 2011, at the Glenway Crossing Shopping Center at the intersection of Glencrossing Way and Anderson Ferry Road (across from HH Gregg). The transit center provides a free park & ride for commuters and easy connections with other westside Metro routes. In 2012, Metro had an overall 4.2% ridership increase compared to 2011, significantly higher than the national average increase for bus systems. Last year, Metro provided almost 17.4 million passenger trips. Including Access service for people with disabilities, Metro provided almost 17.6 million rides total. Metro is a non-profit, tax-funded public service of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority, providing about 17 million rides per year. Metro provides fixed-route and paratransit services in Greater Cincinnati. # # #
