Ohio’s “Bus Operator Of The Year” Retires From Metro

A Metro driver since 1976, Gatherwright was selected as Ohio’s “Bus Operator of the Year” by the Ohio Public Transit Association in 2010. Gatherwright, a Forest Park resident, worked for Metro for nearly 35 years and earned 33 annual safety awards for accident-free driving during his career. He is a member of the prestigious National Safety Council’s Two Million Mile Club for driving 30+ years without a preventable accident. Gatherwright operated on many routes out of Metro’s Queensgate and Bond Hill operating garages, most recently Milford, the East End and Saylor Park. He met high service standards to qualify for his awards, including: No negative customer service reports No discipline No preventable accidents 2% or less unexpected absenteeism “Malcolm has provided outstanding service to the community,” said Metro’s Chief Operations Officer Mary Moning. “He has been a true star with his exemplary safety record and perfect service quality record. We wish him the best in his retirement.” Metro is a non-profit, tax-funded public service of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority, providing more than 19 million rides per year.
