September is suicide awareness month, which is a great time to talk about the 988 hotline and other mental health resources, emphasizing that suicidal ideation is not a reflection of poor character but of illness. Unfortunately a lot of stigma still exists, and can prevent individuals in crisis from reaching out for help. We must break down social barriers to health care.
