United Resource Connection Publishing Guidelines

If you are considering the addition of an article to our newsfeed, review our previously published works to gain a sense of the format and voice we expect. We prefer articles to open with the service need to which it will address, but then otherwise read like an instruction manual, detailing how someone in need can connect to a particular resource or service.

Articles should be written in the 2nd or 3rd person. Names of resource contact persons may be included, but no interviews or quotes should be included. Again, we prefer articles that read like instruction manuals.

We are only interested in articles that pertain to service availability and/or application protocols, public health information, or commercially available discount programs for low income individuals and families.

Addresses provided should be linked to google maps for directions.

Where fees exist they should be plainly stated.

If there has been a recent change in application protocol, this should be acknowledged.

If you are going to include a URL link to any downloadable documents, such as an application form or service brochure, for security purposes the only file format we allow is .pdf. Ask us if you need a server to host your downloadable documents, we provide this service.

Does the content exist elsewhere in a more user friendly format? In situations where multiple articles exist with similar content, we preferentially select the article that is the most user friendly– most comprehensive, but least complicated and easiest to read.

Advertisements or pleas for donations. We generally don’t accept articles that serve primarily as an advertisement for paid services, or as a plea for donations to a specific organization.

Is the content relevant to a person in need of a specific resource? We don’t accept articles that do not directly help individuals connect to a specific social service or community resource. Documents that do not address specific resource availability, and how to connect, are not accepted.

Are there URLs included that are not a direct link to the promised information? We generally don’t accept URLs in articles that require the follower to click through several more links to reach the promised information. No click-bait-and-switch.

Is the information accurate? We will not knowingly accept inaccurate information, and we will remove or edit any articles containing inaccurate information when brought to our attention.

Does the content contain any political or sectarian religious endorsements, or any blatant favoritism toward a for-profit organization or cause? Such content threatens our tax exempt status and will therefor be rejected.

Exceptions to these rules are made at the sole discretion of our Quality Assurance team.
