As we age, maintaining a regular exercise routine becomes increasingly important for our overall health and well-being. For elderly adults, staying physically active can help prevent illness, improve mobility and flexibility, and enhance overall quality of life. Regular exercise has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis, as well as improve cognitive function and mental health. By incorporating regular physical activity into their daily routine, elderly adults can experience numerous benefits that can help them live longer, healthier, and more independent lives.
The Council on Aging is offering a Tai Chi program to enhance strength, flexibility and balance to help seniors better manage arthritis and mobile stability. There will be eight weeks of classes, held Mondays and Thursdays from 5 PM to 6 PM at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church, located at 26 W. North Bend Road. The classes are FREE for individuals who are 60 years old or older, and will be held October 6th through December 1st. Registration ends September 29th.
The program combines warm-up and cool-down exercises, core movement sessions, breathing techniques, and principles relating to improving physical and mental balance. The classes are also meant to be a fun social activity.
There is a flyer available for download to share with interested parties. Registration is available online. The digital flyer has a link one can use to reach the online registration.
Transportation assistance is available for the course, and can be obtained by completing a transportation assistance form. This form is available to download and share with those in need. The form has instructions on where to email or fax the request.
