Red Bike Offers Discounted Monthly Price for Low-Income Individuals

Red Bike is a public bicycle sharing system that has bike stations throughout Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. For individuals living near the bike stations, and healthy enough to ride, the bikes can be a more economical option than exclusively ride-sharing, using the metro bus system, or buying and maintaining a car. A map of the Bike Stations can be found on the Red Bike website. There is also an app available that allows you to find the closest Red Bike station, real-time availability on bikes, and turn-by-turn directions to the closest station. Community routes available for Downtown Riverfront, the West Side, the East Side, the Central Parkway Corridor, Northern Kentucky, and Uptown, are also available online. These maps can be easily printed or sent to your phone.

Monthly passes to use the bikes are normally $30 per month, or $150 per year. But low income residents of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky qualify for a $5 monthly Red Bike “Go Pass”. If you receive food assistance, such as SNAP, WIC, or TANF, or energy assistance such as HEAP or PIPP, you are eligible for the Red Bike Go Pass.

Note that whenever you ride a Red Bike you must return it within 2 hours, though you may do this an unlimited number of times per day, for 30 days, when you have a monthly pass, including the Red Bike Go Pass. Instructions for how to use your Red Bike pass and how to return the bikes can be found online.

Individual rides can be purchased by credit card at Red Bike kiosk stations, or via the Red Bike mobile app. Monthly passes are purchased using the app. If you need to pay for a Red Bike Go Pass with cash, you may do so in person on Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 11AM to 4PM at the Red Bike Shop, located at 600 Central Avenue, downtown near the convention center at the corner of 6th & Central.

You can pay month to month or set your pass to auto-renew monthly at the same price. You can register for the Red Bike Go Pass online. When registering online, you will complete a form with your EBT card number, HEAP/PIPP client number, or partner passcode to receive a promo code for the mobile app.
